Too Many Trolls in Washington D.C. (2025)

   Dear Editor:

The Little Troll Prince is the title of a Christmas cartoon TV movie released in the late 1980s.  I often think about this cartoon whenever I access news media about Washington D.C. Perhaps it is because I turned 46 in April and feel nostalgic.  Yet, it is also due to how immoral some of these bigwig politicians in Washington D.C. are acting.

In the cartoon, all the Trolls live by a Golden Rule, "Do unto others before they do unto you", except one nonconformist who also happens to be the young, future king of the Trolls.

The young Troll prince does not want to be mean and is often subjected to discrimination and harassment because he is not cruel, rude, greedy, or uncivil.   Eventually, the prince leaves his fellow Trolls and befriends a kindly married couple of Gnomes who teach him a better Golden Rule, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
I grew up overseas in a multi-racial and multi-ethnic community, so I know that the Biblical Golden Rule is a part of many different cultures and religious traditions, including Islam and Judaism.
Yet, we are, some people like to say, a 'Christian nation', and certainly most of the people making the laws in Washington, D.C. identify as being Christian, especially when they are begging for my vote or generous campaign donations.  So, if we are going to be a Christian nation with Christian politicians, then we might as well drop the hypocrisy that seems to be overflowing with the current Commander-in-Chief and too many of the members of Congress.
I do not understand how our President and a majority of the members of Congress can claim to be Christian, while they are seeking to cut, even eliminate, the United States Post Office, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
I do not want citizens or immigrants deprived of their life, liberty, or rightfully acquired property without due process of the law, for selfish reasons: I am on the autistic spectrum, some people might think that I am weird because I am a bit of a nerd, or because I voted for "that woman".  If my neighbor or a stranger does not have due process, I cannot feel safe that my basic rights will be respected.
I know Republicans, Democrats, and some third-party supporters, and I respect their rights.  Heck, I once considered myself to be a Reagan-Bush Republican, and I am still quite old-school conservative about certain things.  Yet, what is going on in Washington, D.C. is more akin to the cartoon Trolls I grew up with, than the cartoon gnomes.
